Working Forests
Washington’s working forests are doing their part in salmon recovery by making significant investments to protect forested streams and remove blockages to fish passage.
- Private forest landowners have invested over $170 million to improve, replace or abandon forested roads to help protect vital fish habitat.
- Of the 31,679 miles of roads on state and private forest lands needing maintenance, foresters have already successfully improved 22,793 miles with the remaining 8,886 currently scheduled to be repaired.
- Private landowners’ investments have resulted in the replacement of over 5,600 fish-blocking barriers in order to restore nearly 3,900 miles of historic fish habitat.
